#StorySaturday: Jenn's Story
#StorySaturday is a Pride Palace tradition in which we highlight the coming out stories of members of our community. Because coming out can be an essential and impactful part of people’s lives, we felt that sharing the stories and lessons of people who have gone through these experiences could help guide others who are struggling. This Saturday, we are switching things up and instead highlighting an ally’s story. An ally is someone who takes action, stays informed and speaks up for the LGBTQ+ community. Allies may not identify within the community, but they help support our fight for human rights. Without any further ado, this #StorySaturday will be featuring Jenn, a proud ally and member of the Pride Palace community!
Jenn Farrant, found at @meetthefarrants on Instagram, uses she/her pronouns. She shared with Pride Palace that she and her family bought a Pride Palace flag as allies.
Jenn and her family live in a pretty conservative neighborhood, and they were unsure of how the flag would be accepted. They have had a few neighbors ask questions to learn more, but she never expected to receive a handwritten thank-you letter, shown below.
Jenn and her family are proud to stand with their friends, family and neighbors. They hope that hanging this flag will remind others that there are safe spaces in their neighborhoods.
“Part of normalization and widespread acceptance is flying the flag as allies,” she stated.
Jenn is happy to show people that putting yourself out there as an ally can make a huge difference in the lives of so many people.
Final thoughts: Pride Palace is beyond proud of Jenn and her family for supporting the LGBTQ+ community and inspiring others to do the same.
