Coming out can often be an important and impactful part of anyone’s journey. Pride Palace is so honored that many in our community have decided to share their stories with us! When we first began collecting and posting coming out stories, we did not know that our community would feel this comfortable in sharing such personal experiences, and we appreciate that so much. While we know everyone’s situation is different, we thought that sharing the stories and lessons of others could help people who may be struggling to come out. Without any further ado, this #StorySaturday will be featuring Nell, a proud member of the Pride Palace community. 

Nell uses the pronouns they/them. They told Pride Palace they came out on their thirteenth birthday. Nell knew they wanted to come out to their mom as lesbian at some point, so they decided that they were going to do it that night. Nell later learned that they are pan. 

Nell shared that they have never been very close to their mom and saw her as a friend. Therefore, Nell went with a less serious approach to coming out. 

“After saying good night, I told my mom I had one more thing to say. I said I like my men how I like my coffee. I don’t like coffee,” said Nell, causing them and their mom to laugh. 

Later that night, Nell’s mom texted them asking if they had just come out or if it was a joke. Nell walked in her mother’s room, gave her a hug, and told her they are attracted to women. 

“She said that she supports me and accepts me. I’m grateful to have a mom who accepts who I am,” shared Nell.

Nell also wanted to give the Pride Palace community a quick reminder, “Stay safe, and remember you are all loved and valid.”

Pride Palace is beyond proud of Nell for staying true to herself and inspiring others to do the same.
